Sara says: PUT A BIRD ON IT (part 1)

(photo credit here, this bird house and other lovely ones are for sale, HOORAY!)

Anywhooooooo, welcome to The Aviary, where we're gonna fly like an eagle into the future.

Now, this collection is a bit more nonspecific as I already have birds all over my damn house. However, I think a bird-themed library or office space would be aces, don't you?

Cardinals are like my Granny's spirit-animal or something, so I love them. I found this sweet little picture at an estate sale for like $1.

Below is a later-era Enid Collins box bag (from when the company was owned by Tandy Leather). Don't ya love EC bags?

Golden mosaic-by-number peacock, hanging next to my retro He-Man sheet curtain, in case you're wondering.
 Close-up!
I love these so much it makes my heart hurt. Ginormous peacocks made out of a thin metal, painted gold and green. These about span the width of my couch over which they hang.

 Lookit him! *sigh*

Daher tin tray motif. Above are a pair of regal looking chalkware fighting cocks. Teehee.
ISN'T SHE THE SWEETEST THING OMG?! Mama chicken cookie jar.
Chicken mugs! This is a piece of a larger set, which I unfortunately could not get the rest of, that was sold out of ye olde Sears catalog back in the day. Lucky for me, I have seen some more of this set at a local antique mall!

Ahhh, I love my birdies. I imagine birds everywhere could be a bit off-putting, but OH WELL! Ya know, once I started photographing my collection, it didn't seem quite so bad...

Do you have a favorite animal or birdie friend that makes you go ape when you find an amazing decorative piece? Retro owls, maybe?

Stay tuned for part 2 and have a great week!

And don't forget you can clicky on the yellow bird house at the top of this post to see the other rooms in my dream house!

Sara says: HO, HO, ohhh...

The saints are still marching in! Check out these priceless works of art I stumbled across while junkin this weekend.

Santa kinda looks like he just crawled out of the gay bar at 5 am. GO SANTA! And by "go" I mean, GO HOME! Jeez...

I'd also like to give a shout-out to literally the creepiest Santa I've ever seen. I'm kinda glad blogger friend Eartha Kitsch found him, because if I had seen him in person, I would have had some kind of nervous fit or something.

Clicky HERE to visit EK's lovely blog and see this bastard lit up. No, seriously, I had real-life nightmares about this thing. Will not be visiting Nashvegas anytime soon.

Merry Kitschmas!

Sara says: I'M JUST LOOKING FOR A HANDOUT

I don't know who's responsible for this, maybe Red Skelton. Maybe Charlie Chaplin! It seems that clowns, like everyone else in the world, sometimes find themselves in a state of abject poverty. I mean, we've seen sad-face clowns... maybe that's why they're sad! Here's some interesting articles on the art of being a clowny tramp from The Clown Ministry and All About Clowns.

This week's offering is a hobo clown I found at an estate sale. He doesn't seem too bothered. I've run across some hobo clowns before (see here and here for my favorites!)

Now, you punks get off my stoop!

Sara says: STEP ONE - BROWS

Clearly, a prerequisite to mastering fucked up clowndom is having eyebrows that don't match your hair. Yep.

Second thought was definitely "20-damn-dollars?!", but he's a planter and those are boojy apparently.

Those eyebrows look like skinny leeches and I can't look away.

Ugh.

Sara says (creepily): THEY ALL FLOAT DOWN HERE

This week's CTC offering is brought to you via an estate sale my friend and I went to a couple of weeks ago. He kinda looks like he's reaching up to bitch-slap me.

The balloons really freak me out... and I just realized why.

WOW! I will never sleep again. Here's something completely different to get our minds out of the... gutter.

Here's a beautiful (vintage?) paint-by-number I picked up at that same sale. Check out the other ones my friend K got here!

Sara shares: MORE JUNK!

The junkin scene has been a little kinder to me the past couple of weeks. Now, y'all know I love the kitsch and this haul demonstrates that beautifully! Observe!

I'm a 2nd generation Trekkie, I'll admit it. The original series being the best, of course! I snatched this awesome record duo at an estate sale. I really just love the art on the sleeve sooo much!

Uhura on the back

This is a beauitful costume jewelry set I found at an antique mall. It's a shell inlay pendant and ring, with a red and turquoise cardinal! EEEEE! $4!!!

I've been wanting one of these for forever! It's a vintage bunny cotton ball holder! OMG! Mine's kind of plain and maybe 80's-tastic, but I luff him! He's sitting on a hankie I picked up at the same sale.

Finally, I picked up these tacky things at an antique mall. They're plastic aqua elephant hoops!

see them in action!

Hopefully the blessed season of Fall (I'm so happy) will bring on more junkin goodies! Have y'all found anything awesome lately?

Sara says: LET ME OUT!

I'm so excited that it's finally Fall!!! To celebrate, I'm gonna put all my clowns in one basket.

Or box, as it were.

God, they look like they're trying to escape, crawl inside my head, and haunt my dreams forever...

From the same sale, this is a metal sign/plate from some kind of carnival game. Looks like he hasn't seen much action or, possibly, everyone just missed. Evasive little bastard.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend. And remember, when shooting clowns (as with zombies) be sure to double-tap.

Sara says: HEY THERE BUDDY

These two old chums were hanging out at an estate sale. I kind of feel  like I will never be the same again- which, of course, compels me to share my pain with the world.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

Sara says: THIS IS WHY YOU SLEEP WITH A TEDDY BEAR

This is a little hand-held pinball-type game from ye olden days that I recently found at an estate sale. The game itself was disappointingly solid black, but the packaging...

Yes, children, it's all about the packaging. Mr. Creepy Clown is trying to SELL YOU SOMETHING.  In reality, he looks like he is cackling at your tombstone.

I also love the teddy bears in the background.

Go, teddy, go!

Sara says: HERE'S SOME PONCEY GENTLEMEN AND JESUS CHRIST

Literal title is literal. Ok, here's some fellows I spotted at the sale I went to yesterday.

And, probably unrelated to clowns, the best Jesus seashell-scape I have ever seen.

If it was cheaper, I would have bought it. Man....

Have a good weekend! I'm going back to bed!
