Sara says: SOMETHING WITTY ABOUT JANUARY

You guys, I'm sorry, but I've been feeling like poopshit. Blogging and doing things besides going to Target, laying about, and moaning will recommence soon.

Here's what happened in-between the Target trips and the moaning...

That sounded bad.

+New blogs I've found and enjoyed:
-The Editing Room is filled with HILARIOUS "abridged" movie scripts. Read the ones for the Twilight series. I was in tears. TEARS. Like, weeping openly with laughter.
-Queer Fat Femme, because... well... DUH.
-I've been hitting Shakesville pretty hard this primary season to avoid despairing to death over politics. ONLY MOST OF THE YEAR LEFT TO GO! I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MY BARF!

+My favorite post:
Leapin Leopards was pretty awesome. That was a good day in the life of Sara.

+Movies I've watched:
-Red Tails, I really liked it and I think it's important to support films about Black history (with a Black cast that isn't Tyler Perry). The reviews were mediocre, which I don't understand. I think what some critics found contrite I just found "wholesome". Eh, I liked it and it was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon.
-Food Inc., a must-see documentary for people who eat food.
-Exit Through The Gift Shop, jumping on the Banksy train. Makes me want to yarn-bomb or wheat-paste something.
-Downton Abbey, Ok, yes, this is teevee, but I LOVE it. Poncey English gentle-people with problems.

AND ISN'T HE JUST DARLING?!?!?!

This one has gone viral, so you've probably seen it. AND FOR GOOD REASON, because it's baby goddamn sloths taking a bath. Watch it. You'll die of cute.

Now watch Kristen Bell on Ellen freaking the fuck out with joy over... sloths.

Sara says: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello bloggy friends! I hope the holiday season treated you kindly, and if not FUCK IT IT'S OVER!

Truth be told, I'm tired y'all. I crocheted the hell out of Christmas (post to come soon!) and the holiday felt like it lasted a month. I guess it did! I'm looking forward to 2012 though- even if the world ends.

I'm spending New Year's sleeping on the couch with my lovey and a bottle of champagne. Y'all have fun out there and DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. OR TEXT AND DRIVE. OR TEXT WHILE DRINKING AND DRIVING.

With that being said (yelled, whatever) let's do a monthly gift/2011 round up, shall we?

+New blogs I've found and enjoyed:
-Amazing crochet blog en Español and English called Bigú Handmade! So many amazing patterns impeccably laid out!
-Feeling Stitchy, embroidery porn and inspiration. String is the most fantastic medium, I swear.
-Fat Girl Posing, awesome photos (some NSFW) and body positive resource. Yay!
-Fatshion bloggess supreme SheDel has some amazing thrifty outfits at My Thrifted Closet.

+My favorite post:
The Dream House series! Check it out! The Aviary is coming down the tube very soon! :D

+Movies I've watched:
A Christmas Story! I just leave the marathon they show on teevee every year on as background noise on Christmas Eve. "You'll shoot your eye out!"

I'm not the first one to say this, but you guys 2011 was kind of a shitty year for movies. Now, 2012 on the other hand, is full of promises.

Need I say more?!

Sara says: EH. NOVEMBER.

HOLY CRICKET I AM DELINQUENT IN MY BLOG DUTIES! Ok, it's not that serious, but man did November go by fast. I can't believe it's already Christmas time! AHHHHH!

Well, November does serve a purpose other than being Pre-Generic Winter Buying Holiday time. Let's look, shall we?

+New blogs I've found and enjoyed:
- Fat People of Color
- Oh So Lovely Vintage
- omg cats in space!
- Things Could Be Worse

+My favorite posts this month:
- Everyone meet Mariner Edge of Glory!
- Twi-hard makeup geek time! (I don't hate Kristen Stewart, I really don't... see below.)

+Movies I've watched:
- The Muppets. It was pretty sweet. Miss Piggy being sassy! Hooray! Amy Adams is my new girl-crush. Seriously. Me-ow.

- The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. This one was my favorite of all the other Twilight films! I love how they just went for it and was all, "Here we go y'all, all aboard on the crazy train!" I think Bella was the most likeable she's ever been in the films, and that's all I'm going to say about that. I've about finished the books, so when I snark on the conservative, anti-feminist themes at least I'll have the knowledge to back it up. This series is so dumb... and I love it for being dumb. *sigh*

- The Lovely Bones. I don't understand why people didn't like this one! I guess I've just been a Peter Jackson fan for too long; I could totally see him being into this story. Reminded me a bit of Heavenly Creatures. The special effects could have been better, perhaps. This movie was no What Dreams May Come, as far as depicting heaven goes. Other than that, I liked it a lot!

- Watched all three Lord of the Rings films over Thanksgiving. Why? BECAUSE I'M A NERD, THAT'S WHY. Something about epic sagas just gets to me... gonna start reading The Hunger Games I think, before the movie comes out.

- marathoned all 8 Harry Potter movies, because that's just what I do when I'm stressed.

Jeez, my taste in movies makes me look like a big dork! I need to get a little more arte haus up in here!

- Why The Walking Dead makes me scream at the teevee, but I'll probably still watch it in February.
- Fuck Whole Foods.
- Hyperbole and a Half triumphs over depression.

Sara says: I'M A TOTAL OCTOBERIST

Holy crap, it's November. Time to start thinking about the holidays! Eeek! I'm sad to see Fall on the wane, but I think I'm ready for some holiday cheer. October was pretty great! Matt and I staycationed in Hot Springs, we went to an alligator farm, we went to the state fair (I hugged a llama!), and I've been loitering around my local hotspots (Argenta, Heights, Hillcrest) pretty much weekly. I've picked up so many local goodies! Soap, tea, honey, beads, yarn! It's truly felt like a harvest and I am just very appreciative of being alive right now. :)

+My favorite posts this month:
-Purple Haze
-National Coming Out Day
-Juliet Bad Romance

+New music I've been pumped about (because I haven't read any new blogs, recommend me some?)
-Tom Waits, Bad As Me
-Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile, The Goat Rodeo Sessions (here they are performing Attaboy)
-Drake, Take Care (here's Headlines)

+Movies I've watched:
-Season 1 of The Walking Dead, because I need something to replace True Blood on Sundays. I really LOVE the effects, but the character building is somewhat lacking in some areas - especially the female characters (Lori has never killed a zombie on screen, for example).

-ALL SORTS OF GOODNESS at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Fest

-The Perfect Vagina, which is online and free! It's from a filmmaker out of the UK and documents her journey learning about labiaplasty or "why we should love our lady bits rather than cut them up.". If you have a vulva, you should watch this. I had some great conversations about it!

-Twilight, I love love love debating the zeitgeist of Twilight. I'm so happy it exists. I'm going to go see Breaking Dawn with a friend this month! Teen Girl Squad activate!

-Paranormal Activity 3, eh it was better than the second one. I have this Halloween tradition of going to see really bad scary movies on Halloween. Last year's was The Last Exorcism.

-skelemingos and OMG WHERE CAN I GET A DEVIL ELF ON A SHELF?!?!?!

-Lady Gaga-o-lantern (from Telephone).

-"The ad shows Rick Genest, who you may know as Zombie Boy and have seen him in the Lady Gaga Born this Way video, being completely covered with Dermablend Leg & Body foundation. If you didn’t know who he was, the beginning of this video would probably not shock you (but the end would!) as his skin looks perfect- you can’t tell that he’s COVERED in tattoos from head to toe. This ad had me go out and buy some Dermablend concealer the next day, no joke!"

-The Miss Fat and Beautiful Contest, circa 1960

+Exciting happenings IRL:
-Christmas crafting begins!
-I see a light at the end of the tunnel for this semester at school!
-Thanksgiving recipe testing starts this week!

Sara says: WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS

Because I can be corny if I want to, that's why! And it's been a rough one, folks.

I mean, seriously...
-9/11 10-year anniversary.
-American Apparel once again proves how sensitive and positive a company they are.
-Troy Davis executed, becoming a martyr and a poster child for how capital punishment fails us.
-Don't Ask/Don't Tell finally ends, which is GOOD, but brings out some pretty strong emotions and GOP candidate/constituent FAIL.
-Jamey Rodemeyer commits suicide, bringing further attention to the issues of bullying and the impact on the LGBT community. Support the It Gets Better Project!

And my granny took a nose-dive this month and seems to be fading faster and faster. Being a caretaker sucks. I'm glad to do it and wouldn't have it any differently, but it still sucks.

+Comfort Food (besides me going on daily Starbuck's pillages):

+New blogs I've found and enjoyed:
-Picked up some mighty sweet crochet patterns from PlanetJune.
-craftyminx, plus-size crafty maven! Wanna learn how to crochet? School is in session

+My favorite post this month:
-I Am Mine, after going to see PJ20.

+Movies I've watched:
-PJ20, I had no idea that Cameron Crowe did Almost Famous and it's basically about his life. Wow!
-Ponyo, adorable! I love Miyazaki and this one is not at all creepy! I'm worried that he may be sacrificing creepy for Disney-fication though, but I haven't seen some of his other films that are targeted for a younger set.
-The Princess and the Frog, another anti-depressant. First Disney film I've ever openly debated.
-Red Dragon, the prequel to Silence of the Lambs. My beau has never seen any of the films and this one was surprisingly better than I remembered it. Ralph Fiennes is so deliciously evil...
-Mystery Science Theater 3000, OMG this is like my go to anti-depressant! It's totally for geeks and the films are indeed painful, but I remember fondly being a little baby Sara staying up late watching MST3K. Here's Mike and his robot friends shredding a short film about hygiene. Priceless.
