Sara says: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello bloggy friends! I hope the holiday season treated you kindly, and if not FUCK IT IT'S OVER!

Truth be told, I'm tired y'all. I crocheted the hell out of Christmas (post to come soon!) and the holiday felt like it lasted a month. I guess it did! I'm looking forward to 2012 though- even if the world ends.

I'm spending New Year's sleeping on the couch with my lovey and a bottle of champagne. Y'all have fun out there and DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. OR TEXT AND DRIVE. OR TEXT WHILE DRINKING AND DRIVING.

With that being said (yelled, whatever) let's do a monthly gift/2011 round up, shall we?

+New blogs I've found and enjoyed:
-Amazing crochet blog en Español and English called Bigú Handmade! So many amazing patterns impeccably laid out!
-Feeling Stitchy, embroidery porn and inspiration. String is the most fantastic medium, I swear.
-Fat Girl Posing, awesome photos (some NSFW) and body positive resource. Yay!
-Fatshion bloggess supreme SheDel has some amazing thrifty outfits at My Thrifted Closet.

+My favorite post:
The Dream House series! Check it out! The Aviary is coming down the tube very soon! :D

+Movies I've watched:
A Christmas Story! I just leave the marathon they show on teevee every year on as background noise on Christmas Eve. "You'll shoot your eye out!"

I'm not the first one to say this, but you guys 2011 was kind of a shitty year for movies. Now, 2012 on the other hand, is full of promises.

Need I say more?!

+Creepiest Clown of 2011!
Now this was difficult, but I think it has to be this guy:

+YouTube videos that made me teehee:
Fantastic stop motion video of Mario in the real world.

I have somehow infected everyone in my family with Nyan Cat. As a bonus, it's hard to be dramatic and talk about uncomfortable holiday dinner topics with Nyan Cat in the background.

Don't act like you've never wanted to do this. Dancing With An iPod in Public - Footloose

Watch this froggie video. Just do it, it's less than 30-damn-seconds!

+Other Required Viewing:
-Was 2011, in fact, a joke?
-Why You Shouldn't Donate to the Salvation Army

+Notable Pins:

I HATE when this happens!

Fabulous button display idea!

Pew! Pew! PEW!

+Exciting happenings IRL:
-Christmas is over!
-I'm looking forward to Valentine's Day like some sort of holiday sadist.
-Last semester of graduate school classes (then internships, yippee!)
-Matt got Red Hot Chili Pepper tickets for Christmas ;)
-Getting new ink next week at a new shop, OMG!

+Relevant photos:
Matt let me paint his toenails pink and green on Christmas day because he loves me. Just on one foot though.

Sara says: WHAT'S COOLER THAN BEING COOL?

ICE COLD! Ok, I couldn't think of anything wittier to go here and I'm not sorry!

*ahem*

Hello there bloggy friends! I have some more makeup geekery for you today.

This is kind of a unique color combination I think, so have a gander.

Mint Green + Primary Blue

**Bonus cookies: it can also be recreated on the cheap!**

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk (as a base) + Wet n' Wild I Dream of Greenie Trio (top shade) + ELF Punk Funk Eyeshadow Quad = FABULOUS FOR WELL UNDER $10!

Do have a favorite color combo in your home or on your face that may come off as kinda weird, but when you slap 'em together it's just pure magic? Mint green is my color right now (sorry orchid, it was fun) and I find it goes swimmingly with just about anything.

Sara sings: ROCKIN AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays my lovely lovelies! Here's the last Creepy Thrifted Santa installment, along with some other holiday goodies and nonsense!

(image from Kitschy Living, of course)

Last week, to escape the throngs of crazy crowds, my spousal equivalent and I snuck off to go junkin for a bit. This one booth at an antique mall had these little santas crammed all over the place.

Now, while they themselves may not be creepy, the idea of someone sitting there painting them kind of is. If you can't tell those are ROCKS, ladies and gentlemen. And for $5 a pop, you too can have a depressed little santamen ROCKIN around the Christmas tree, bwahahahaa!

Now, here's some other Christmas-y goodness. Check out Sara Jean's Holiday Sundae Supreme.

I invented this when I was like, 9 years old. Matt asks me to make it every year, usually late at night when we're highly stressed. Here's how you too can feed your inner 9 year old, or your outer 9 year old for those with wee ones.

+Get you some ice-cream. I used vanilla here, but you can substitute something more festive or favored.

+Pulverize some candy canes or mints (stick 'em in a plastic stack and whack away with a hammer, meat tenderizer, or rolling pin).

+Pour a cup of eggnog over that shit, unless you hate eggnog. Dark rum would be good too, for the grownups!

+Grab your favorite Christmas cookie and squish it. Sprinkle that on top too.

+Add chocolate syrup!

+TA-DA!!! Enjoy and relish in that warm, sugary feeling.

Now, I've also been crocheting my little fingers to nubs, so all next week I'll post pictures and patterns of the fruits of my labor. Here's Granny's cardinal; the pattern can be found here.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!!! YAY!

Sara sings: O CHRISTMAS TREE!

... o, Christmas tree ...

OMFG! I cannot believe it's Christmas time for reals. The year has FLOWN by. Even so, I do find myself dreaming of future spring crocheting and Valentine crafting... *sigh*. But, no, it's Christmas! AHHH!

I've been so hype about Christmas this year, I put up THREE trees. Not one, not two... THREE.

The BIG Rainbow-y Tree

I tried to start with purple on the top and ombre on down to red on the bottom.

Purple-glitter-Christmas-feelers of doom

The Christmas pickle.

 Boots being a lazy kitty.

The Pink and White Tree

I can shove so much on this tiny tree, teehee.

Close-up! I <3 this tree!

Granny's Teeny Shiny Tree

I love Christmas trees and lights. They're like the perfect winter anti-depressant. I may leave the pink one up and make it a Valentine tree!

Do you like to "theme" your Christmas trees? Do you have a favorite childhood or vintage ornament that you HAVE to put up every year? TELL ME! :D

Sara says: YOU'D BETTER WATCH OUT

Source: google.com via Sara on Pinterest

I thought I'd do something a little different this week, though it's certainly creepy and still has a lot to do with Santa. I've been a bit obsessed this year with the story of Krampus.

According to Wiki... I mean legend, Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children. When the Krampus finds a particularly naughty child, it stuffs the child in its sack and carries the frightened child away to its lair, presumably to devour for its Christmas dinner.

See video demonstration below, by that bitter bastard Anthony Bourdain.

Let's further explore Krampus in action, shall we?

Sara says: MERRY CHRISTMAS

I had almost forgotten about my stash of vintage Christmas cards, until this lovely post at the aptly titled OH SO LOVELY VINTAGE jogged my memory. And off I went digging through my bureau!

I picked these up a few months ago, all in one lot, for $3. So much more fun than the more contemporary boxed cards, am I right? Just stuck these babies in the mail today!

This one was my favorite!

Ahhhh... Christmas. Now, my one caveat is that, with vintage cards often comes vintage envelopes THAT WON'T OPEN AND/OR TASTE LIKE BATTERY ACID WHEN YOU LICK THEM. Prepare as is appropriate for odd sized cards, lol.
